"Trent Trent"

Born June 8, 2000 to Jeffery and Tiffany DuVal, passed away November 4, 2008 in Riverton, Utah. Our "Hero T" Trent Daniel DuVal passed away on November 4, 2008 in his favorite place, home. His battle with Leukemia was hard fought. Trent never gave up the fight and never doublted his Heavenly Father. Whether climbing any obstacle he found or playing swords, he was full of life. Always finding the joy and fun in everything. Trent was always thinking of others and how they would feel oftentimes neglecting his own pain and needs. His battle touched more lives than he could ever imagine. He will be missed and thought of often. We love you Trent and look forward to seeing you again. Trent is survived by his parents, brothers: Bradley and Nathan DuVal, grandparents, and many loving extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his Grandma Great Cazier and his Aunt Carol. The family wishes to thank the doctors at Primary Children's hospital that tried everything in their power and to the nurses that became part of our family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Herriman Utah Stake Center, 13675 S. 5600 W. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2008 at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S.) and from 9:15 - 10:15 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Trent peacefully passed away today. He will forever be a part of our family. We will miss him terribly but know we will see him again. We are thankful to a loving Heavenly Father for welcoming him home and letting his spirit stay with us. Trent loved life and never took it for granted he truly is and was a wonderful spirit. Please know how thankful we are to all for the support and love we have felt, it has been amazing. Trent is finally out of pain and very at peace. Thanks again.

Trent woke up this morning in a lot of pain. We upped his morphine and it helped. Since Saturday he has slept for the last 3 days with a few hours being awake. We think he may have an infection and it's taking it's toll on his body. Trent has fought hard we love him dearly, as a family we will never give up hope but ask at this time that prayers go out to make him comfortable. Trent is so loved and is a very strong special spirit, he has touched our lives and forever changed them. We are at peace and know without a doubt our Father in Heaven is in charge and has a plan. We will keep everyone posted. Thanks for everything.

Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween. I had fun. I went to the hospital to get platlets and saw all my nurse friends there. I miss them but not the hospital. I decided to go trick or treating we went for 2 1/2 hrs. I did not want to quit. I kept going and going, and boy did I get a ton of candy. It was raining but that did not even stop me. By the time I got inside I was exhausted, and went to bed. It was a fun fun night. Hope no one gets sick with all the candy.

I had a blast last night at the Utah Jazz home game. I want to thank President Ollis and the Utah Jazz for getting me there. I met the Jazz players they are so big with big hands and feet. My brothers only dream of being big and tall. Okur gave me his sweat bands from the first half they were still sweaty so cool, mom could barely touch them. Thanks again President you made my night! Well things are pretty much the same. Today I got up early at 11:30. I only have about two hours a day that I have enough energy to do anything. I went to the trunk or treat last night for about an hour. I was a little anxious with all the people around because it's been a long time since I've been around more than just my family. I know everyone has been waiting patiently to hear about anything going on for Trent. He is one very tired boy. He needs a lot of sleep. He has a few hours a day when he really does things. The family has just kind of been playing it be ear. Sometimes he's checking on the blog, Lego's, craft time, or maybe a quick visit with someone. He has nurses and parents who care for every need. Just having fun. I fever about every other day I get Tylenol and it goes for a while. We are going to see Beverly hills dog movie (we don't know how to spell the type of dog name). I am building lego's with my mom, I have already built 3 big Star War lego sets. I go to get platlets tommorrow not fun! I hope everyone has their costumes for Halloween it's coming soon. I am having a blast with my family, they are wearing me out!!! Yesterday I had the honor of being the Thursday Hero for the BYU football team. Every week during the season the Y will honor someone. They made it a very special day for me and my family. They took us on a tour and we were able to watch the players practice for a while. It was awesome! I was able to meet all of the team and coaches, all I can say is WOW. They were big and very nice to me. I want to thank all those who put it together. I also want to thank Coach Mendenhall what a choice man you are. The spirit you carry is strong. You are a great example to me and many around you. Thanks so much. Good luck on the game Thursday win it big!!!

Words cannot express the thanks we have for everyone who has helped in the miracle of today!! We want to thank Chick-Fil-A for the wonderful fundrasier they put on. We are so humbled and amazed at the wonderful people, friends and family who love Trent and our family so much. Trent is very lucky to have so many loving people to care for him he truly feels the love coming from everyone's generosity. Trent continues to have fun each day, we are wearing him out with the fun we are having as a family. He is doing well very tired but in good spirits. All he can about today is WOW. Thank everyone for everything!! My family and I feel your prayers every minute of the day. We have been having so much fun doing things as a family. I have eaten the fast food I have wanted for so so long. It is good but I only handle a little. I am not in pain and still am making my family laugh. Dad and Grandpa gave me a blessing last night, it was beautiful. I know all will be well. I will not be in anymore pain or hurt, my family will also be ok. I will miss them terribly but they tell me time is different so I will have faith in that. To all my little friends please know I will miss you and await the time I can see you again. I have sure missed playing and having fun with each of you. I know everyone has to work through many feelings but please promise me not to be angry with Heavenly Father. He loves each and everyone of you and knows what is best for each of us. It is in his plan that I return to him, my time is over and I am ready to go. Please know I did not give up I would continue to fight if it was what the Lord wanted please be at peace all will be well. Love you all

Oct 10 day 2 home (Jnote about Trent)

He made it home last night after a very long day. It takes a lot to get everything set up and learn the meds. His sweet family of five finally got their moment alone at 11pm. They are sleeping in this morning and looking forward to breakfast around the table. Trent tried very hard to make it to the REAL soccer game last night, but was very worn out. He had his dad take his brothers for part of it. After a good nap he finally got his Wendy's fix. It's been a long time since he's had fast food. He could handle one bite of the burger, fries and frosty, but it was sweet. Thank you everyone for your love and prayers. We have received many calls and emails, Trent loves all of the pumpkins and balloons. Thank you for the snacks and cards. We are working on getting a love mail box set up, but for now things can still be dropped off across the street at my house. All of those who have offered to bring in meals, I will get with you soon, Trent still has a few cravings to satisfy first. The pumpkins look so cute with all of the signatures, there is a pen out there for anyone else that comes by. I will post more later about whats going on. The experimental drug has been working and has started to get the graft v. host under control. This has allowed me to have a couple of good weeks. I have had very little pain, have been awake, and can get out of bed by myself. The whole purpose of striving for graft v. host was that it would kill off the remaining leukemia cells. Now that graft v. host is coming under control we have found the leukemia is still here. The graft v. host was the last chance I had to win the battle. I have fought hard for fifteen months and still want to keep fighting, however Heavenly Father has other plans for me. I will be going home tomorrow. We are going to have fun as a family and do whatever I want to do for as long as I can. We will let everyone know what is going on but right now we are only focused on coming home. Our Father in Heaven knows what is best and we have faith in Him. Thank you for the prayers and my love to all. Trent.

We are also trying to get an absurd number of purple, green ,and orange balloons for his room ,those can be dropped of at my house across the street. The last few days I have been throwing up yuck! The doctor wants to try and get my nose tube out but my gut is not liking that. I hate the nose tube and totally want it out but I don't want to throw up either. A few posts ago I told everyone I got my pic line out, that was the line in my arm, I still have my double lumen in my chest they can access. When that comes out I will be done with all of this! They are taking me off one of the antibacterial drugs today. They are going very slow with decreasing and taking me off these meds. Yesterday I finished with the 8th cell infusion. They are going to re-submit my case so I can get another 4weeks of cells. I am doing so much better and hope the cells continue to work. The coolest part is that I finally after 5 1/2 months have formed poop!!!!!! Well hope everyone has a great day.

Sorry it's been a little bit. The doc's say I am back to where I was before I got sick a few weeks ago so they feel the drug is working. Thursday is the last dose for the drug but because they see a little results they will ask the company for 4 more weeks of drugs. They are slowley cutting me off my steroid once a week, they want to get me to 1 kilo. So far so good. I am feeling really good. I am not pooping blood anymore it's back to my regular color, I am pooping way less so I am so happy for that. They are clamping my nose tube to see if my tummy can handle it. We are starting it off slow and hopefully soon I will get it out, the snot up there is killing me. Today they surprised me and took out my pic line I was very nervous but it was ok. I am glad that they took it out. I am so excited to be feeling a little better my goal is to out by Halloween. Me and mom have gone out into the garden a few times and read Harry Potter. That's about all that's new hope everyone has a great day.

Well the weekend has been kinda hard. I have thrown up and not felt good. Last night my heart was racing like crazy this morning they did an ekg and chest x-ray to make sure all was well. They have started the new drug, I have had it twice, with six more to go over 3 more weeks. It's actually cells that have been broken down and will help heal my gut. It's awesome what they can do these days, there is a name but I can't remember it. The doctor's are so excited for results. I am excited to. They put a tube down my nose that goes into my stomach. It's sucking out all the backed up poop and other fun stuff in it. I am not in to much pain so that I am thankful. They have also cut my morphin back so I can actually stand on my own and not feel like I will fall. I am very sleepy the last few days but hopefully it means my stomach is healing!!! Campath did not work so Mom and Dad met with the doc's yesterday and here is what they said:
First of all a few days ago I asked Trent if he wanted to keep trying or if he was done, he looked at me and said "I want to keep trying, I do not want to give up". So because of this we have decided to try a new study drug. It is not FDA approved but shows promising results. Of course there is risk's involved but anything we try has risk's. His body will first heal from the infection this last weekend and then we will start this drug. Trent is a very sick boy, the doctor's were very worried this last weekend when his body fell apart. We are very thankful and blessed to have him with us and also thankful to nurses and doctors who love and care for Trent. Please continue to keep him in your prayers, have a good one.

My potty throne has arrived. I am so excited. We just have to figure out a way to keep the buckets under it to catch my pee & poop. The chair will allow me to put my legs and feet up so hopefully they will not be so swollen. I have only pooped a few times in the last 2 days and it has been blood. The doc's think that my intestines are not working and everything is backing up or I am throwing it up. Nasty I know but it's my life! My fever broke and I am just trying to recover now. I am so excited for my potty chair.

This week the doc's have taken me off 2 of my antibiotics and put me on some oral meds that were IV meds. They say they want to make things easier for me. Last night was ugly. I started to throw up and poop, there was blood in it so they think my body did not absorb the drugs orally. I am weaker than I have been and I feel horrible. Today they put me back on the antibiotics and took me off the oral drugs and put them back to IV meds. At least they tried my body just is not ready. I have slept all day it's crazy how fast things can turn bad. I hope tommorrow is a better day. The cdiff viruis came back negative but they cannot say yet if the campath worked or not. She has been found! Thanks to the Madsen family! They took her in and found her home through KSL's website. We need help! Today our dog Peanut decided she wanted to go on a walk while the door was open. She did not have her collar on because she is always in the house. Peanut does not know the neighborhood because she only goes in the backyard. Trent does not know Peanut is gone and we would rather not tell him. We are asking for everyone to keep an eye out for Peanut. Thanks.

Yesterday doc's came in and told me I was positive for the Cdiff virius. It's a virius in your stomach that comes out your poop. It is very contagious so we have to be very careful and wash our hands like crazy. They are hoping that is one of the reasons I am pooping so much.

It's been a great day. They upped my morphin again, and I am feeling good. Yesterday I went on a walk with mom and dad I was exhausted by the end of the night. Yesterday was probably the best day I have had in weeks. I was more myself than I have been in a long time. Mom and Dad were so excited. One of my nurses is trying everything she can to get me a super cool new toilet!!! It has a padded back and feet rests!! They are worried about my feet cause they are so huge hopefully I can get the toilet. By the end of the week hopefully they will see if the shots worked but it could take till next week. On Sunday the 31st our ward is doing a ward fast for me so if anyone wants to join I would love it, and thank you ahead of time! Hope everyone has a great holiday have a blast for me!!

Shots are done!!! Dad and Mom said I did awesome!! My legs are just a little sore. My pooping is getting out of control. I am pooping anywhere from 1800-2100cc a day. The doc's say it's because of the antibodies (the shots) and hopefully in about a week it will stop. So I am constantly on the pot my legs are permanently indented. My ankles (I will have to put a picture on) are huge bigger than they have ever been. I pushed on my feet they indented about 1" Mom said it looked like my feet were going to pop. It hurt a little but I was curious. I have been on a few walks I love to go to the caf which is my nickname for the cafeteria. I love to look at all the foods then go upstairs and order the food yum yum. I don't eat all but one bite but it's fun to think of all the foods.

Today was a good day after 12:00. They upped my morphin even more and I am very happy and in not as much pain. I talked to mom a lot today she even washed my hair that's a miracle! My feet, ankles and legs are about triple what they should be. I am trying to keep the swelling down but nothing is working. So far the med is okay the shot is not fun but they try to numb it first which helps. I sat up and built legos it was fun. I do not have very much energy so I get tired very fast but I will take what I can get!!! Hope everyone has a good day.

Well this week has been a little better than the others. They doubled my morphine so I was not in as much pain. I'm still having some pain and cramping but mom and dad were happy I talked with them this week. Mom took me outside and it was nice to feel the warm air. My "poop output" was half what it had been on Wednesday. Everyone was hoping it was a trend but it went back up the next day. The doctors have been waiting for some levels to come up and for verification that the three virus' I have are in check. Today everything lined up so they started the next medicine. It is called Campath. I did not like it because it was a shot. I will get a shot for the next four days and then we wait again. Thanks for all the prayers. Love, Trent.

Today I've been sleeping a lot. My stomach is hurting very bad, I am constantly pushing my morphine button. The doctor came in and said the CD3 (mom put C23 but it's really CD3) antibody is not avaliable. It is a study drug and can not be used. That just stinks but my body will be ok with the 2nd drug, still do not know what it is called but it will work. Hope everyone has a great week.

Yesterday I woke up and my stomach hurt so bad so I fell back to sleep. When I woke up I said to mom "well this is promising" I felt very good. Mom asked if I wanted to go on a walk so we did. It was fun to be up and moving. We went out in the hall and watched the candy machine man stock the cany machine. It was fun and I told mom that I wanted to use a dollar and get a candy. Yum yum. Mom and Dad met with the doctor, mom will tell you about it. Today has been a hard day, my stomach has hurt very bad! Hope everyone has a good day.

Trent is an amazing boy, we have learned so much from his sweet spirit. It has taken a day to think about what we could say to everyone. We knew going into this second bone marrow that Trent's chances were not as good as the first bone marrow but we knew Trent would fight and we would be there helping him along. The first meds they tried weeks ago were what the doctors said "the best drugs they had to help fight gvh". The drugs did help with the skin and liver gvh but not with the gut gvh. His gut is no worse than it has been but it is also not really any better. So right now there are two drugs that they will try. The first one is C23 antibody it attacks the t-cells. It will be given once and then we will wait, it could take weeks to see results. If it works the second med will not be given, if it doesn't work the second med I can't remember the name will be given and we wait again. The problem with these drugs is that infections can occur just like with the other drugs we have used. Trent has been very lucky to not have had any serious infections and we are hoping his body will continue to do the same thing. The doctor was very honest with us and told us these drugs might or might not work. If one of these drugs works Trent's body will be able to mend and we will bring him home. If these drugs do not work or Trent gets a serious infection we will lose him. We have not lost hope and are very thankful we still have options out there. We are thankful for the doctor's and nurses and continue to pray that they will have the guidance to see what is best for Trent. But most important we know that our Heavenly Father has a plan for Trent, whether he keeps him here on this earth or takes him home till we can be together again. We as a family have faith and cling to this knowledge. Thank you all for the prayers, support and love.

The last few days have been rough. Yesterday I only pooped 150cc that's a record. Mom thought I was plugged up somewhere but today I showed her and pooped a lot!!! I am still throwing up they think it's one of my many levels of something or another so I got taken on some meds for today to see if I would stop throwing up. I had a ct scan today looks ok there is some fuzzy stuff on one of my lungs so they want me to breath deep and inhale some meds. Thursday the doctor's, Dad and Mom are going to talk about all the results and hopefully everyone will agree on a game plan. I got the coolest surprise today some friends brought me a movie I missed in the theaters that I really wanted to see. It made my day a lot brighter and fun so thank you so so much. Yesterday they scoped me and took some biopsies. My stomach does not look normal and my colon looks bad. So we are waiting on the biopsies to see if it still gvh or some infections or both. Wow, I can't believe it is the end of July. I was suppossed to be home by now!! Everything is pretty much the same. My pooping is not slowing down it's staying the same. They took me off my ativan which helps with the nausea. I have been very happy and I talk so mom and dad did not want me back on it. Well the nausea is getting worse so yesterday mom put me back on ativan and I am not to happy and I do not talk so it's hard but I don't like to be nauseated. The doc is ordering another upper and lower scope to see if the gvh is better or worse. It hopefully will happen by Monday so then we will get results and find out what then next plan is. The nurse keeps asking when we can go home the doctors keep saying not yet but we are going to keep bugging them. Have a great day.

Well hope everyone had a good 24th. I got to hang out with dad. He was able to convince me to go outside. We went outside and sat for about ten minutes then I had to use the bathroom so we went back to my room. I then went back outside for forty-five minutes. We just sat under a tree watching the birds and feeling the wind in our faces. After a while I told dad "curse you." He was a little shocked and then I told him that now I would want to come outside every day. Dad said it was fine and Mom and him would take me outside anytime I wanted. Nothing has changed medically and the doctors are still trying to determine what the next step will be. Love, Trent.

Well it's hard to believe another week has gone by. Tomorrow will be 12 weeks for this stay. Nothing has changed during this week. I have days that are better than others but basically it is still the same. Every day the doctors add a food or two that I can eat. It's exciting but reality is I don't eat more than one bite because my stomach does not feel good. Even though some food has been added I cannot enjoy it or take advantage of it. Mom and dad have been trying to get me to leave my room and take a walk or ride in a wagon but I have not wanted to. It is also hard to be more than a few feet away from the toilet. Last few days have been crazy. Tuesday they started me on a new med cause my blood is now positive for the epstien bar virius. I will get it once a week for four weeks. Wednesday the results came back from my biopsy of my intestine and I also have the adno virius. I will be on meds Mon, Wed, & Frid we are not sure how long. We are hoping it will slow down the diarrhea but the doc's say it probably won't. The volume of my poop has gone down the last few days which is good. They have put me on a progression diet so I can eat plain bread, potato, rice, cheerios, rice krispies stuff like that. There is only about 10 things I can eat and of course I do not want to eat plain things I want pizza and burgers!!! So every morning I ask if I can eat pizza and burgers and every morning they tell me no I need to start slow. Mom laughs and I make a new plan for the next day. I still sleep most of the day and finally come awake and willing to talk a little about 7:00. Well hope everyone has a fun day.

Well another week has gone by. It is moving slow but fast. Can hardly believe it has been more than a week since the fourth. Nothing is new. I'm still in the same holding pattern that I've been in. I sleep most of the day with pooping breaks. Lately I'm up all night pooping. My "output" has increased drastically which is not the direction we're supposed to moving. The doctors are going to try another dose of the Remicade today. Nothing has happened with the other two doses so hopefully the third is the charm. Love, Trent.

1st pic - sitting on my chair next to my bed. I put pillows on my bed so I can rest my head since it is at least a half hour ordeal if not longer.

2nd - my box of cereal that I "smell" because I cannot eat anything.

3rd - where else can you get a funny hat for the holiday other than the hospital. I was able to go into another room to see the fireworks. It was nice but we barely made it back to the room when I said I needed the toilet.

Well nothing much has changed, no better no worse. I still have the same issues and we will try another dose of the Remicade again. My days are pretty boring. I go from sleeping in my bed to sitting on my toilet seat next to my bed. I'm still only really awake in the late afternoon and evening. I WANT TO EAT. Love, Trent.

Today is officially 1yr of fighting this leukemia. My life has changed so much, but I have learned so much in the process. It is crazy it's been a year, in some ways it's gone fast and other ways it has been very slow. I thought last year it would be about 6 months in the hospital then I would be out. Well in the last 12 months I have been in the hospital 7 months 3 wks. I can't wait for the day to go home and never return to this hospital!!! My feet are swelling again very bad, they gave me some cool socks to help the swelling but they look funny and I don't want to wear them. Everything is about the same. Hope everyone has a great day.

Another weekend in the hospital. Tomorrow will be nine weeks for this stay so far with no immediate end in sight. I have not been feeling that well the last two days and haven't even held my box of Lucky Charms to smell. The tests finally came back on the Epstein-Barr virus I initially showed positive for. Most adults carry the virus with no problem but it would have made a difference in what treatment they would try next. The test showed that the virus is present in the tissue sample but not actively flowing in my blood stream. This test was holding up any new treatments. This afternoon they are going to start me on Remicade. Another relatively new drug to try and get the graft v host disease under control. Thanks for checking in. Love, Trent.

My scope went well. The pictures look good but results came back on the biopsy and things are not so well. I have grade 4 gvh in my lower intestines also. That means it will just take longer to heal as it is the highest grade possible. A test also came back positive for epstein barr virius which is mono, so they are sending more blood test in to see if it really is positive. Depending on that test will determine the next treatment. They have decided I will not get any more of the chemo pentostatin. There are 2 drugs they are looking at but will decided later. My spirits are up I know I will eat soon!!! I sit and smell my lucky charms cereal box to help with the hunger. Hope everyone has a fun weekend.

Today doc's came in and are going to have me do a colonoscopy tommorrow. I will totally be put out but I am so not excited. They need to check to see what is going on cause the diarreah will not stop. Depending on the results depends on whether they will do the chemo again or another drug to help heal me. They are just telling me it will take time to heal. I really just want to eat, I am so hungry. I am still sleeping a lot. Mom tried to cut me back on the morphin drip but my stomach just hurt and hurt so they upped my dose back up. I am watching Spiderwick with my Grandpa tonight I am so excited. Have a great day.

I have good news I am engrafted 100%. The doc's keep saying the donor had great cells. The chemo really has not done much so far, they will wait till next Friday to see if it has worked and we will go from there. So far we see little progress. Doc's will come in one day and say the rash looks great, then the next day I will have a flare up. My diarrhea is a constant, I have started to have blood in it which is not good. Because of this I can't eat or even drink. I am having a very hard time with this cause I am so so so hungry. I have not had anything to eat for 4wks. I am very positive and know next week I will eat!!!! Today the doctor said that my hands are showing symptoms of cronic gvh. Chronic gvh can take years or months to cure where acute takes only 100 days or less to cure. I am still very positive even though it is taking so long to cure me. Hope everything is well with everyone and hope everyone is having a great summer.

Happy Father's day to all the fathers. Not too much is new. We started the chemo pentostatin on Friday and today is the last day. Not a lot is known about this chemo because it is relatively new. It is supposed to target the t-cells (which they gave me in the transplant) and kill them so the graft v host can come under control. I sleep alot during the day and am only awake about 8 - 10 hours. The awake hours are usually late in the day. My eyes are still swollen everyone thinks I'm sleeping when I'm watching tv because my eyes are barely open. I have been enjoying Aveeno oatmeal baths because it soothes my skin rash. Thanks for the prayer. Love, Trent.

What a night. I was up every hour except 3:00 & 5:00 pooping. It was not fun, I actually fell asleep on the toilet but hey I did not fall off. They are giving me proteins to help with my swelling. My eye is actually looking a little better I can open both of them for a little bit, but my feet and ankles are still huge. My aunt came to sit with me yesterday she has magic or something cause when mom got to the hospital I was talking and looked good. Today doc's said they wanted to put me on a chemo called pentostatin. They are hoping that it will help the gvh get under control. Mom is not to sure so we are holding off to see what other options we have. Other than that I am doing the same. Hopefully each day will start getting better!

The last couple of days have been exciting (not really) and rough. Yesterday I spiked a fever and did not look or feel very good. My yellow line (which is part of the central line) had a blood clot in it so they tried to tpa it to get the blood clot loose and the line flowing again. Well my line gave out and broke about 3" down from the last break. This is not good. I have so many meds that they had to put 2 IV's in my hands. I was so brave and it worked well till this morning when one blew out. They fixed my line but it has to dry for 6-8 hours and then they will try to see if it works. My skin gvh is getting worse so the doc's came in today and are putting me on a bolus of steroids with more steroids I am at an even greater risk for infection, so they are also putting me on more antifungle meds. The very bad news is I have so many meds they have to give me and my central line is not enough so today they are going to put in a pic line also. I am nervous but they will put me out to do it and that's fine by me. I am very tired and hope this will work. Have a great weekend!

Things are going. I am not showing major improvement so they are going to watch me for a few days to see if the gvh starts getting better. If I am the same they will give me a bolus of steroids and hope it will kick my body in gear and start healing. The doc's say I am just taking my time and they want to see results. I haven't had any more scarry nights thank goodness! I just have diarrhea very bad. It's calmed down to 4-7 times a day instead of 7-10 times. I am on some pretty heavy meds so I zone out a lot. I am starving and can't eat but hopefully soon I will be able to! I am just thankful the pain is under control and hopefully I won't remember much of this hospital stay. My liver enzymes are still up there but are coming down each day! Thanks for all your prayers. The doc's also say that this is a good sign that I have gvh so bad. They have seen many kids who have had gvh this bad and it's enough to kill all the leukemia cells so we are very hopeful. Well have a great day.

Things took a turn for the worst on Sunday night. Dad was with me and I told the nurse I did not feel very good. All night the nurse battled me being septic but manageable. Low blood pressure, temp of 104, oxygen levels fell and my heart rate was to high. They shoved 5 bags of bolus in me and gave me a dose of gram negative antibiotics. Eventually things turned around and I felt better. Monday night I went down again but not as bad, I only had to get 2 bags of bolus (which is fluids they run very quickly to get my blood pressure up). By yesterday I felt a little better. My fever broke Monday but today Wed. I got another one. I actually talked to mom and played play station yesterday, only a little but it was more than laying there with my eyes closed. Today I am not feeling very good at all they upped my morphine cause I have major diarrhea and stomach pains. I have started to throw up again and feel lowsy. Hopefully I will feel better soon. Hope all is well with everyone.

Well the last two days have not been that fun. Graft v. Host disease can manifest itself in the skin, liver, or gut. Well I have all three. The GvH in my small intestine is the worse classification there is. If that were not enough I now also have pancreatitis so they won't let me eat or drink anything. My day consists of pain, throwing up, and running to the bathroom. Sleep is not that easy. They have now started me on steroids to try and get the Graft v. Host under control now. Today has been rough I have thrown up so much. My liver enzymes keep going up, and they did a scope on my stomach, and intestines. The doc who did it is pretty sure it's graft vs. host, tomorrow they will hopefully be able to tell us how bad it is. It's been a rough 2 days! My white count is holding steady but no anc yet. I have been fevering most of the day today. My liver test show that my liver enzymes are six times what they should be which means there is infection or it's graft vs host. If my liver enzymes go higher more than likely they will do a biopsy of my liver. I am not very excited if they do that. Hope all goes well.

Today my Aunt, Grandma & Grandpa are going to hang out with me. I am so excited!! Yesterday was not a very good day at all. I woke up at 1:00 am to the chills, tremors and fevers. They think it is from some medicine I am getting. So I slept till 11:00 am, I did not feel good. My stomach is starting to hurt and I am feeling very nauseous. It took about 4 hrs to get my pills down. Me and mom just hung out and read Harry Potter. I started getting a fever again about 4:00 it was at 39.5c. So I got Tylenol and after a few min I was up and playing like myself. Hopefully today I will feel better today. Have a great day.

Well I'm still not acting like I'm sick. We play all day, stay up late, and sleep in. We have heard the word "home" used a couple of times lately. I cannot go home yet but we're getting closer. My potassium levels keep sliding and the doctors don't know why, so I've been getting potassium through my IV. Now they gave me a HUGE pill to take. All is well at this stinkin hospital. My white count is at 300 today. They say my neutraphils will be going up in the next couple of days (neutraphils is what makes my white blood cells). So my anc which makes up all my neutraphils will hopefully start showing up, and I can go home!!! I had a dressing change and my skin underneath was raw and peeling so in a 24 hour period I had to get 3 dressing changes so my skin would heal and be ok. It hurt so bad but is looking and feeling very good. I am so excited for the new chronicals of Narnia. I read all of the books, they were so good. I have some of the Narnia action figures. I play with them a lot. They are so much fun. I got a prince caspien, a sword, and peter's shield but it was plastic. It was a rip-off but I still have fun with it. Me and my Dad were sword fighting and my Dad cut my arm off. He ended up winning but I didn't give up until he cut my head off. Of course we were just playing it was fun!!!

Well they start my day count over again with the lymphocyte infusion. I made it to day +170 before but now I have to start over. Last night I was bouncing off the walls. Dad and I were throwing the football around until about midnight. I've been drinking a lot so that I can be unhooked during the day. Today I needed blood and platelets so I've been sleeping due to the Benadryl they give me before the transfusions. No signs of graft vs. host right now. The doctors came in this morning and said that they heard they need to tell me I'm sick because I'm not acting like it. I having fun playing with my Narnia toys and trying to not be bored. Today was a great day. I had a party and that is always fun!! I got the stem cell infusion today and it went great. Just like the bone marrow transplant, it was easy I just had to sit there and let it go into my central line. Now I just wait till it engrafts which will probably take a few more weeks. We don't know how early the gvh will show itself I will let everyone know. The donor is an amazing man, he spent six hours at the bone marrow clinic yesterday and got a shot everyday for 5 days before the graft was taken. Wow, I can't wait to meet him! I got some Narnia toys and I am so excited for the movie to come out. If you have not read the books I would read them they are the coolest! Well it was a neat day, I am still amazed at the things these doctors can do. Thanks for all the prayers.

Sorry I have not been on the blog I have been very sad and have not felt like writing. I can't believe it is May crazy!!! Well so far chemo has been ok. The two drugs are clofarabine and arac. My eyes have not hurt at all this time cause they started me out on a steroide eye drop so that has totally helped!!! I was finally losing some weight from the steriods until I came in. They pump me full of water so I have puffed up again yuck. I feel a little sick to my stomach but have been able to handle it well, and the best news is I have not thrown up!!! Today was the last day of chemo I will have 3 rest days then on Tuesday I will get the stem cell infusion. I am very bored and would way rather be home playing with my brothers! It's hard to be back in the hospital the nurses are nice and so sad to see me back. I am fighting with all I have and know I will be ok, thanks again for all your prayers.

Got to the hospital today. Yesterday I wanted to stop time so I would not have to go to the hospital. We did a lot of fun things this weekend. I 4 wheeled, flew kites and went up to the mountains and had some fun. There is so much snow still on the mountains it was so cool. I got all set in my room and they started me off with tons of fluids. I have to pee a lot so my kidneys will not get ruined because of the chemo. After I was going to the bathroom a ton they gave me a lot of anti nausea drugs then started chemo. The first one is 2hrs then one rest hour then ara-c for 2hrs. I just hope I don't throw up at all. They did find blasts in my bone marrow so that is not great news but this chemo will knock them out!!! I will put pictures on when the computer works. Hope all is well

Today at clinic was pretty boring. My platelets are down to 23, my red blood cells are also down so I go in on Thursday and will probably get a platelet and blood transfussion. The donor is our hero, he is going to donate, we are very thankful for him and can't wait to meet him. It will be at least another year till we meet him, and we both have to be ok with it. The coordinator is now on the third donor center to get a sooner date for the stem cell. We are just thankful he is willing to do it! I am bruising like crazy. Tonight with my brothers we were messing around like normal boys and I got 3 new bruises, Mom was not to happy. I will have send a picture.

Well I will try to tell you what this chimerism test(mom has spelled it wrong and we found out today how to spell it) is that I keep talking about. It is how many donor cells are in me and how many of my own cells are in me. Monday's chimerism test showed there are 73% donor cells and 27% my cells. Of that 27% 2.3% are leukemia cells. They are very concerned about this so I will be going in a couple days a week so they can watch me closely. My platelets dropped again. It sounds like the donor is on board with the stem cell infusion, they all just have to agree on a date. We hope it's sooner than later! It sounds like they are going to do a new chemo drug that has been handled and works well. I am not to excited about the chemo again. We went on a walk today I raced my brother and won him it was so cool.

The Nurse Practitioner called with ok news. My preliminary bone marrow tests showed I have 2.3% leukemia cells in me, which is good because it's been 6 wks since the last test and it's still pretty low. Like she said we have a little more time to work with so we felt pretty good today. I was pretty sure I would be at 0% and not have to go back into the hospital but I will do what I need to!!! They still have not heard from the donor center yet hopefully soon. I go back on Thursday and hope I do not have to get a platlet transfusion. Me and mom had a movie night tonight watching Harry Potter fun fun.

Clinic appointment today. Mom and Dad were hoping for some answers but did not get many. The doc's are pretty concerned right now. My platelets have dropped a lot, the cymorism test last week came back with 89% donor cells and 11% my cells so my cells in that test are increasing. They did a bone marrow aspirate and a spinal tap, we just found out there are no leukemia cells in my spine so that's good. During the spinal tap they injected a chemo Ara-c so I don't feel my best. When we got home mom asked if I wanted some tylenol for the pain I told her I was not in pain that my back just hurts! She just laughed at me so needless to say I took the tylenol. They are still in the process of contacting the donor. The donor center has to set a date before they can contact him directly and they have pushed the date till May 5th. Time is not on my side so the bone marrow team is still working on dates. I am having fun in this warm weather and hope to go out in the next couple of days to ride the 4 wheeler. I will let you know on the results, keep praying.

Today went to clinic, and eye appointment, it's been a long day!! Everything went well at clinic. They are contacting the donor as I type. If all goes well the 14th I will receive a bone marrow aspirate and hopefully the leukemia counts have not risen. On the 21st I will start a heavy duty chemo round and on the 29th the stem cell infusion which is called DLI Donor lymphocyte infusion but I am at the mercy of the donor right now. The dates may change because of the donor's schedule but hopefully will be close to the original dates. My eyes are 20/20, so far there is no damage from the irradiation which is good! So in the next few weeks I am going to play and have fun, and try to forget about everything that is going on. Have a great week.

Bad news today the nurse practitioner called us and told us they are very worried about me. Like mom and dad they do not think the graft vs host is working like they wanted it to so they are changing the plan, again. They are going back to the donor and ask if he would donate some of his stem cells. With stem cells there is a greater chance of getting graft vs host so they are hoping he will say yes and it will work. Before the transplant they will do a major round of chemo, worse than anything I have gotten before. They then will give me the stem cells, so we will count down like we did with the bone marrow transplant it's just stem cell transplant this time. I am glad I have another chance at getting rid of the leukemia but am very sad I have to go back to the hospital and throw up and do it all over again! I do have at least 2wks till it will all take place they still need to ask the donor and get that all arranged again. I am pretty scared right now but trust all will be well. I am going to fight and win this once and for all!!!! Please keep me in your prayers and I will let you know.

Yesterday I had a wonderful day!!! Me and my family went to Make A Wish. It was so cool. They spoiled me! The Salt Lake County Sherriff's came, I want to thank my new friends Sherriff Winder, Cheif Hudson, Deputy Gavin, Deputy Fowler, and Deputy Mudrock you made the night so fun with the motorcycle, gun, and dog thank you so much!!! I was so excited I got a Swat hat and only people on the SLCounty swat team can get one but they gave me one everyone was so jealous, it's a nice looking hat!!! I then went up to the wishing room I had my own key to get in. It was was an awesome room, it had a waterfall and a pillar that my wish goes into. It then gets sent to the wishing wizard to grant the wish. I followed a light in the floor then went around the waterfall and put the top of the pillar on and my wish was sent off. After I made my wish everyone in the room had a paper with a wish on it for me. We went around the room and everyone told me their wish it was a neat experience, one we will not forget! I just want to thank Make A Wish and my wish granters for their support, love, and wish. Also thanks again to my new friends you made the night very special and fun.

Well as you can see I have not lost my sense of humor. I put on Dad's sweats and was having fun. I then decided to have the biggest best super atomic wedgie!!!! There is always an exciting moment at my house. I went to clinic today and I am so excited! My kidney levels have gone way down they are down to .9 they have not been that low for a while. My platlets, red blood cells and white blood cell counts have all gone up so that is also good!!! I am totally off of my cyclosporine (a gvh drug) and now am starting to go down and off my steroid again. Two weeks from today I will have another bone marrow asparite to see if the gvh worked. It will and all will be well!!!! I am just trying to have as much fun as possible. Today me and mom did a science experiment and it was totally awesome. It was blue goo and I strongly think every kid should make it, it was so cool and kept me busy for a long time. Ing. are: 1c. corn starch, 1/2 c. water, food coloring, and mixing bowl. Put corn starch in a bowl and slowly pour water in with it, add food coloring. Use hands to squish the water and cornstarch together. Make sure you use your hands it is so awesome to feel and play with. My mom loved how easy it was to clean up. Well enjoy. Let me know how it works.

Well clinic today was boring!! My kidneys levels have gone up again not as high, they are are at 1.4. So they sent me down to get a ultrasound of my kidney's. My kidney's are normal nothing is funny with them so we will see. They are starting to take me off cyclosporine faster to see if that helps my kidneys so Sunday will be my last cyclosporine pill!!!!! My blood pressure is high so I am now taking my blood pressure meds twice a day. Other than that I am having fun playing outside and with my brothers. Easter was fun and I am glad I was able to be home. It has now been 51/2 wks that I have been able to be home it has been awesome!!! The funiest things I have done is playing airsoft guns outside and riding our 4 wheeler I am crazy man on it. Hope everyone has a great week.

Today I went to clinic it was good and bad. They are putting me back on 1.8ml of prednizone. I am throwing up and they don't want the gvh to get so severe they have trouble fixing it so hopefully I won't throw up as much. The bad news is my kidneys are doing horrible. My levels are very high and they are very worried about them. They are going to put me on more fluids at night. Tommorrow they want me to go back in to test the level again, if it is as high or not much lower they will admit me in the hospital. Mom is timing me every 30 min I have to drink something I'm not happy about it but I don't want to go back in the hospital so I am doing it. I hope my kidneys will be better tommorrow I want to be home for Easter!!!!

The rapid decrease of the steroids is working fast I am starting to feel it. I am not eating very much at all and I am starting to throw up after my meds are taken. I am trying so hard not to throw up cause I hate it but I can't help it. Today I took my meds and 48 min later I ran for the bucket but first threw up on the wall and floor it was like cool green slime running down the wall. (I'm trying to find enjoyment out of this). Anyway not much else is new we colored Easter eggs and painted them it was so fun. Nate tried a boiled egg and he got to the yolk part and made a funny face so I did not try it!! My clinic visit was all that I expected it to be. I have 1.5% of my bm cells, .8% of those are leukemia, and 98.5% of the cells are from the donor. With this taper they want the 1.5% destroyed by the gvh so the donor cells can take over and produce good cells! If this does not happen they will go to the 34 yr old donor and ask if he can donate more cells. The Nurse Practitioner feels pretty good about me and what they are trying to do, the Dr. wants to be as aggressive as we can at treating me and hopes for good results. I am not relapsing as he calls it, it's just persistent. I kind of do not want to talk about it with the doctors I just want it all to go away, for me to play and be a normal kid. When I got home I took a long nap and when it got dark we all played flashlight hide n seek in the house it's so fun but kinda scary. Please remember me in your prayers, and thanks for everything.

Well my taper on my steroid is going well. Mom and Dad are watching me very closely for any sign of gvh. I have been very busy making cookies (I did them almost all my self!), playing pirates, riding my bike outside, everyday I beg to get outside it is so fun, and always playing air soft guns with by brothers we have so much fun. I go to clinic tomorrow for my 100 day consult so we have many questions and hope all will be well. Hope everyone is enjoying this nice weather I sure am!!!

Well the doctors called today with the results from the bone marrow aspirate. There is .8% leukemia cells. That means that the leukemia survived the bone marrow preparation and transplant. We are now doing a rapid decrease of my Prednisone(steroid) to try and induce graft v. host disease. If this doesn't start it then we will do a rapid decrease in my Cyclosporine(rejection) to induce it. At this point we need the new bone marrow to attack my body and destroy the leukemia cells. The only thing mom and dad were told today, over the phone, was that there should be no problem. Any prayers are welcome. Love, Trent.

Today was clinic. I also had my hearing test, chemo and tbi can hurt hearing but mine seemed to be the same so they are not concerned. I also got a bone marrow aspirate. I kept wanting to wake up in the middle of the procedure so they kept giving me more sleeping meds. Well when it was time to wake up I did not want to, so it took a while to come out of it. This bma hurt more than the other ones, they took blood and a biopsy of the bone. It hurt so bad after I had to take meds to feel better. The nurse practitioner said everything looked great and I am doing well. The results will be in some time next week . I am just taking it easy today and being very careful with my hip!! No running or jumping for me today. School is going great, I am slowley getting back into a grove with it. Hope everyone is well.

Hello everyone. I went to the doctor's office on Wednesday for my normal weekly appointment and some new testing. They are now doing the "100 day" testing. This week I had a respiratory test. Next week I have vision, hearing, and a bone marrow aspirate. My kidney test showed they are doing a "little" better so they did not put me on more fluids. I was very happy because I like to move around and not be hooked up to the IV bag. The weather has been nice and melting the snow in the yard. Today dad, Brad, Nate, Uncle Alan, and I went outside for an airsoft war. I had a blast and only got hit a couple of times. I have a better airsoft gun than all the others so I have an advantage and they all felt it. Hope everyone is enjoying the sun. Love, Trent.

Well today I am so tired, I slept till almost 10:00 yikes. We had my 100 day party last night. It was so fun! Mom got out the chocolate fountain and we pigged out. We had chocolate all over our mouths. We played Dance Dance Revolution and SingStar we laughed and laughed it was a blast!!! I was singing and dancing with all I had. Time has gone by fast I can't wait till I can go wherever I want and eat out. I already have a list for what I will eat out first. Well have a great day!!!

Well tomorrow is day +100. It will be 100 days since I got my new bone marrow. Day 100 is a benchmark in the process. It does not mean that things still cannot happen but it is a big step. Mom is going to get the chocolate fountain working tomorrow and we're going to have a little party. I'm still trying to keep busy around the house. I have been doing school work with mom and it helps take up some time. We won't know if my kidneys are doing any better until my appointment this week. Well I came home on Sunday afternoon. Before they even had the RSV mask off of me I had my shoes on and I was ready to go home. It's been fun to be home again on Tuesday I did home school and it was good. Wed. I went in to clinic everything looks great except for my kidneys. They are the worst they have been so I have to drink 30oz of fluids on top of 1liter of fluids. If I can't drink 30oz a day they will up my fluids on Friday. The Nurse Practitioner laughed cause she knows I don't drink a lot so she is giving me a little time but more than likley I will have more fluids come Friday. They again are slowley taking me off the steroid. I am now at 5ml, it's going well and there is nothing to indicate that the gvh is acting up or getting worse. I've been shooting my air soft gun with my brothers. Everytime we go outside I shoot one of them in the bum or leg I think it's funny but Mom, Brad, & Nate are not laughing. Mom finally told me to stop or I would lose my guns so of course I stopped! Last night I was able to go to my Grandma's house and see my cousins that came in from Pittsburg I had to wear my mask and they had to promise they were not sick. I had so much fun it's the only kids I have played with in monthes and I had a blast. Well hope everyone is doing well.

Well things have been a little boring here in the hospital. I have three treatments a day that last two hours each for the RSV. I also have a bacterial infection that they are treating. The doctors said that I can go home after my last RSV treatment which will be Sunday afternoon. I will get out just in time for Brad's birthday party. I cannot wait and am doing everything I can to show that I'm ready to go home. Love, Trent.
